MSMT Reliability Foundations Training Seminar Series

5 Days     3.5 CEUs     8 CRP Credits
Assumes basic knowledge of undergraduate math/statistics.

The MSMT Reliability Foundations Series is composed of three course sessions, taught over five days. Although you can register for each session individually, we recommend that new students start with the full five-day package to achieve a solid theoretical and applied foundation in fundamental reliability disciplines and tools.

RS 401 - Session 1: Reliability and Life Data Analysis

3 Days (M, T, W)

This three-day session provides a comprehensive treatment of the subject of life data analysis (including Weibull analysis) as it applies to reliability engineering. Training includes an overview of the underlying statistical theory and methods as well as step-by-step guidance on the use of the Weibull++ software.

RS 402 - Session 2: Introduction to Accelerated Life Testing Analysis

1 Day (Th)

This one-day session provides an introduction to accelerated life testing, one of the hottest subjects in reliability engineering. This introductory course covers the theory required to understand accelerated life tests, along with step-by-step instruction in the use of ReliaSoft's ALTA Standard software.

RS 403 - Session 3: Introduction to System Reliability/Maintainability Analysis

1 Day (F)

This one-day session provides an introduction to system reliability, maintainability and availability theory and applications. This introductory course utilizes ReliaSoft’s BlockSim software for ascertaining and optimizing system reliability and maintainability.

Applying What You Will Learn

The MSMT Foundations training series (RS 401, RS 402 and RS 403) presents concepts and software tools that you could use to help your organization:

  • Understand when life data analysis methodologies are appropriate and how they can be applied when you need to understand and communicate how a product will perform over time, such as:
    • Setting meaningful reliability targets, demonstrating whether an item meets the specification and/or effectively communicating performance estimates to management.
    • Identifying whether an item will experience infant mortality and/or wearout and making predictions about performance during the useful life (or warranty) period.
    • Evaluating suppliers and/or comparing designs based on reliability.
  • Understand when quantitative accelerated life testing methodologies are appropriate and how they can be applied to analyze the effects of stress (or other factors) on product life and significantly reduce the test time required to obtain reliability metrics, and therefore reduce your time to market.
  • Understand when reliability block diagram methodologies are appropriate and how they can be applied to identify critical components (or failure modes) and determine the most effective ways to improve system performance through design improvements and/or maintenance planning.
